Technology Needs Assessment Summary and Implementation Plan

The emerging healthcare technologies make it the need to time to implement strategies that are effective for the integration of nursing informatics and technological health systems in clinical practice (Javaid et al., 2024). The assessment of the technological needs of the healthcare organization will help in identifying the areas that need improvement and how the improvement can be effectively implemented in the healthcare setting for the better response of the patients. The implementation plan will be based on the effectiveness of the needs analysis report which will be in alignment with the outcomes of the healthcare professionals and nursing staff regarding the need for technology. The integration of Electronic Health Records will be effective for improved maintenance and organization of the health records of the patient. The information records of the patient hold great significance in ensuring that the treatment of the patient will be effective by ensuring the proper use of the medical records of the patient. Proper identification of the needs of the system will validate the successful integration of the changed technological system.

Electronic Health Records

The integration of EHR in the healthcare facility ensures effective data sharing between the healthcare professionals and interdisciplinary teams for the effectiveness of the strategies that are developed to improve the health situation of the patients by the collaboration and unified decision of all the team members involved in the treatment of the patient (Quinn et al., 2019). The EHR enhances the access to the data by integrating advanced data management and access methods which will allow the timely intervention of the healthcare providers using the EHR system. This system is also used to generate alarms for the maintenance of the health situation of the patients suffering from chronic diseases so they can easily identify the time for their education and follow-ups with the healthcare providers so that their health can be improved effectively.

Anticipated Benefits for Patient Safety and Health Outcomes

The medical records of the patients are still organized in paper form at the Ridgeview Medical Center organization and there is no facility of the technology which hinders the effectiveness of the organization in providing high-standard care and health (Vos et al., 2020). The integration of EHR in the organization ensures that the patient data is effectively managed and organized for the treatment purpose and data sharing among the interdisciplinary teams to effectively analyze the health situation of the patient and implement strategies that are effective in providing high-quality care and safety to the patients.

Improved Decision-Making process of the Healthcare Providers

The healthcare providers will be able to make effective decisions regarding the health of the patient by ensuring that recommended medicines do not hurt the health of the patient when compared with other medicines the patient is already taking for the betterment of the health situation (Tariq & Scherbak, 2024). Thus the EHR system records the data about the medical history of the patient including the medications which will help the decision makers in improving their decisions for the health of the patient.

Enhanced Collaboration of Interdisciplinary Teams

The interdisciplinary team collaboration regarding the identification of useful strategies that will help in the effective treatment of the patient is enhanced through the integration of the EHR (Robertson et al., 2022). The EHR ensures that unified accurate data will be shared with every team member for improved analysis of professionals without any ambiguities and missing information. Moreover, it will lead to more effective decisions for the healthcare providers as they have the same information which will help them in developing unified decisions for the betterment of the health situation of the patient.

Analysis of Patient Information for Effective Healthcare Plan

The healthcare plans will only be effective if they are based on the patient’s consent for the quality of treatment provided to them as patient satisfaction with the plan ensures that it will be sustainable in generating positive outcomes for the patients (Ferreira et al., 2023). The analysis of the patient data will be more effective using EHR as it will provide all the accurate information in one single platform thus saving the time of the doctors in the identification of the needs of the patients and reducing the cost of retest by already using the test data available in the EHR.

Increasing Patient Participation

The EHR systems provide a unified platform for the management and organization of the patient which will be accessible to the patients also along with the healthcare providers (Aguirre et al., 2020). This effective platform will increase the engagement of the patient in monitoring and maintaining their health situation for positive health outcomes and improvement in the management plan provide by the healthcare professionals.

The assessment of the technological needs of the healthcare organization highlights the need for an EHR system in the clinical setting for the improvement in the efficiency of the healthcare providers regarding the quality of treatment and increases in the rate of positive health outcomes of the patients. The integration of EHR will reduce the paperwork of the healthcare organization and decrease the workload on the staff members as the management of paper documents is more time-consuming and hard than the maintenance of the computer-healthcare management systems (Tsai et al., 2020). The reduction in staff burnout ensures the quality of treatment and positive patient outcomes. The integration of the EHR creates ease of access for healthcare providers thus ensuring the timely intervention of the staff members in the deteriorating health conditions of the patients for the prevention of health disparities. The EHR will be able to generate alerts regarding the comparison of the medicines that will create a negative impact on the patient’s health using the medical history of the patient regarding the medicines they are already taking for the effectiveness of the treatment provided to the patient thus validating the safety of the patient. All these benefits of the EHR highlight the significance of technology in the healthcare setting for the assurance of improved health treatment of the patient and the quality feedback of the healthcare organizations regarding patient health management.

Kaiser Permanente

The early recognition and response to the deteriorating health situation of the patient is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment in preventing health harms and increasing the positive outcomes of the patients. Providing quality treatment to patients is the priority of every healthcare organization due to which clinical facilities are integrating technological healthcare systems into the practice for the betterment of health outcomes. The effectiveness of EHR in providing quality treatment cannot be denied due to their actual response to deteriorating health conditions (Holmes et al., 2021). Kaiser Permanente is a United States organization that enhances the integration of EHR in clinical settings by providing coordination and support to healthcare providers. The organization aims to ensure the safety of the patient and enable the organization for the effective integration of EHR in clinical practice. Ridgeview Medical Center organization will also benefit through the quality collaboration of the organization in ensuring that the record-keeping system in the clinical setting will be upgraded to EHR and proper training and education sessions should be provided to the staff members to effectively integrate the EHR in the clinical practice for the enhancement of the reputation of the organization and meeting the demands to today’s healthcare effectiveness standards.

Change Management Strategies

The implementation of the change in the clinical setting will only be effective through the collaboration of the patients, healthcare providers, administrators, IT experts, and interdisciplinary teams (Bendowska & Baum, 2023). The change can be sustainable if it properly identifies the needs of the change and how it will impact the healthcare organization as a whole and the patients. The involvement of all the stakeholders in the implementation of the EHR in healthcare ensures that all the potential problems have been identified and appropriately resolved for better outcomes of the change. A few challenges are also associated with the implementation of the EHR which need to be effectively identified and resolved for enhanced patient outcomes.

Challenges Associated with Electronic Health Records

The evaluation of the technicalities of EHR integration in the clinical setting through the support and collaboration of healthcare professionals is necessary. Effective change is always based on the identification of the challenges associated with the implementation of the EHR so that it will be resolved earlier for the sustainability of the change. A few challenges were identified which are given below;

  • Assessing the availability of the hardware and software needed to implement EHR in the clinical setting.
  • The assurance of proper security systems for the management of patient information safety and privacy.
  • The training and educational sessions and programs for the staff members to ensure the effective functionality of the EHR in the clinical practice.
  • The integration of ethical and legal practices in the implementation of the EHR for the satisfaction of the patient and equality of the treatment.
  • The active collaboration of the interdisciplinary teams to identify the effectiveness of the EHR in the clinical facility.
  • Effective leadership strategies to ensure active collaboration of the stakeholders and support from the healthcare governmental organizations.
  • The patient feedback regarding the effectiveness of the treatment provided using the EHR system.

NURS FPX 6416 Assessment 2 Conclusion

The increasing trend of integration of technology in healthcare organizations highlights the importance and effectiveness of technological systems in improving the health outcomes of patients (Javaid et al., 2024). The integration of technology will be effective through the proper identification of the needs of the healthcare organization and the identification of the change that will help the organization in fulfilling its needs. The implementation of the challenge can be sustainable only through the identification of the problems associated with the integration of EHR in the medical facility. The system will only be efficient if it has identified all the areas of concern and properly managed those issues through the collaboration of all the stakeholders and effectively evaluating the feedback of the patients.
